Adult Opportunities

To Become a Humane Society Adult Volunteer Team Member:

1. Attend an Intro to Volunteering session! They are planned for the first Saturday of most months at HSP. They are about an hour in length and cover our philosophies, current needs, and the process for coming on board. If you are interested please email our Manager, Volunteer Services or call at (727) 797-7722 x237 to reserve a seat (sessions do fill).
2. Following the session schedule an interview and bring your completed application for the appointment.
3. Upon acceptance attend a Volunteer Orientation. Open Paw training and a six-month committment is also required of those desiring to work with our dogs or cats.
4. Direct animal contact volunteers are paired with a Mentor to develop comfort with procedures and safety practices.
5. Get involved with your area of choice and preparation!

Overall our volunteers are involved in the following areas (think something not on this list is an area of expertise you would like to offer us? Please note in your e-mail!):

• Adoption Counselor/Shelter Ambassador
• Animal Behavior and Enrichment
• Dog Bathing
• Foster Care
• Adoption Center Assistance
• Fundraising / Special Events
• Humane Education
• Photographer (Photograph our adoptable animals, volunteers in action, events etc)
• Small Wonders Assistant (Caring for our rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, ferrets, birds etc awaiting adoption)
• Maintenance (Helping with minor repairs on an as needed basis)
