Teen Opportunities
HSP's Teen Volunteer Program is reserved for those teens 16 -18 years old connected to scholarship needs or with a serious interest for exposure to the animal welfare field.
To Become a Humane Society Teen Volunteer Team Member:
-
Attend an Intro to Teen Volunteering session! Info sessions are about an hour in length and cover our philosophies, current opportunities, and the process/materials to apply to come on board. If you are interested please e-mail Bobbie, our Manager of Volunteer Services, or call (727) 797-7722 x237 to reserve a seat (sessions do fill).
-
A group interview for those applicants who have submitted their materials follows for this selective process. Acceptance along with assignment of responsibilities is distributed shortly thereafter. Commitment is for the Spring, Summer or Fall (as applicable) for a minimum of 2 regular shifts (3 hours each) each month plus one major event.
- Upon acceptance, attend the Teen Volunteer Orientation. Bright Futures or other school documentation forms are processed at this time. Open Paw training is also required of those assigned to work with our dogs or cats.
Our teen volunteer responsibilities vary and can include:
- Morning K-9 Kennel Assistance (during the school year on Sat, Sun – summers, daily)
- K-9 Break Leaders (during the summer and fall afternoons making/distributing ice treats)
- Feline Support (helping cat staff during the school year on Sat, Sun AM– summers, daily)
- Medical Support (assisting staff in medical mostly with cats mostly mornings)
- Humane Education Support (assisting our Humane Ed with that program, weekday hours)
